There is nothing like a warm bed on a cold night to relax and soothe you to sleep. A heated mattress pad will warm the bed underneath as well as the pillow and covers. The heated mattress pads are comforting and enable deeper relaxation much faster so you can wake up more refreshed in the morning.

Although some people are building houses that have incredibly efficient HVAC (heating, ventilating, and air conditioning) systems installed, many people still live in houses with poor insulation and HVAC. Older houses are particularly prone to these problems. In the winter, this can make the house too cold for comfort and result in astronomical heating bills.

Heated mattress pads (electric) may be a good alternative to keeping the heat running constantly, or to piling on blankets, and can drastically cut heating costs. However, it’s worth investigating how much electricity electric mattress pads really use if you want to determine whether the pad will result in real savings. The following sections give information on the wattage used by electric mattress pads, as well as data on what can affect the wattage. Typically heated mattress pads consume approximately 60 to 90 watts on the high settings. This usage is per side, however, so an entire pad can consume 120 to 180 watts on average. Translated into money, this means the average pad is consuming about 2 to 3 cents if run for an entire night!

The size of the heating mattress pads impact how much wattage is used. A twin mattress pad, for example, can use 60 to 85 watts, which is about the same amount as the wattage of each side of a larger pad. If you have a larger pad, you can expect to use more electricity because there is more pad to be heated. Small wires and circuits have increased resistance. This means that it takes less voltage to heat them up than it does for large wires, so mattress pads that have wires that are larger than others will need more electricity to get the same amount of heat. Wires in heated mattress pads typically have become smaller over time, so the newer your mattress pad, the better the odds are that it is more efficient.

Snuggling up with an electric blanket keeps you warm at night, but sleeping on something with electricity coursing through it seems a little unsafe to some. While safety regulations and precautions have improved over the years, concern remains about the safety of electric mattress pad

In the late 1980s, inconclusive studies linked electric blankets to cancer. Investigations, safety advancements and warning labels have made them safer over the years, but improper use remains a danger. Electric mattress pad is an effective alternative to an electric blanket. Instead of providing a source of heat above the body, electric mattress pad provides heat under the body. Some people use the electric mattress pad all night long, if they feel exceptionally cold at night. Others use a electric mattress pad simply to warm up the bed before jumping in. In this way, the pad helps one avoid the shock of cold sheets on cold nights.

When partners share a bed, an electric mattress pad may offer dual controls similar to an electric blanket. This way, each partner can adjust the setting for individual comfort. Many find that dual controlled pads resolve sleeping issues when one partner is more susceptible to warmth or to cold.

Following are things precautions to be considered before using an Electric Mattress Pad:

1. Many also find that the heat underneath the body can be helpful for certain conditions like arthritis. However, caution should be employed when a person suffers from a painful condition that may be age related.

2. People using an electric mattress pad or blankets should have sufficient control of their limbs so they can shut off the pad. People who are likely to forget to turn off an electric mattress pad or blanket should also not use one, as the pad may pose a fire danger if left on too long. Proper precautionary measures ensure better utility of Electric mattress pad.

3. Babies should never use either type of electric heating device, as they may be more likely to receive burns! And also, they cannot control the temperature. As well, experts recommend not employing any type of electric pad or blanket on pets.

4. Further, those who suffer from urinary incontinence should not use electric mattress pads or blankets. This encompasses some of the elderly and children who might still have the occasional nighttime accident. Though very unlikely, a slight danger of electrocution exists from an accident in the night while a pad is turned on

Cold stress is a condition that occurs when body temperature drops below normal for a prolonged period of time. This can happen quickly or over the course of several hours. Factors that affect body temperature and can lead to cold stress are current temperatures, wind chill factors, water and dampness. Cold stress is another name for hypothermia, frost bite or trench foot. One of the fastest and most effective ways to treat someone with cold stress is with the use of a warming blanket. Hospitals are equipped with blanket warmers so a warming blanket is immediately available, but in an emergency you must use your own. While there are specialized warming blankets on the market that have pockets sewn into them for hot packs to be inserted, you can use a simple fleece or wool blanket as a warming blanket.

An electric warming blanket is a blanket with an internal heating device placed above your top bed sheet. They have a control device that adjusts the heat to your personal comfort level. You can use an electric warming blanket to heat up your bed before you are in it, or you can use it to keep you warm while you are in bed.

A neonatal warming blanket is an article that helps keep premature babies warm. Making and donating these blankets can help provide a hospital with needed goods and a family with a personal item during a stressful time. Premature babies haven’t developed enough body fat to keep themselves warm. Incubators and radiant warmers keep premature babies warm in neonatal intensive care units. Blankets help keep premature babies warm the old-fashioned way, and can help babies feel more secure. There are several types of blankets for premature babies available on the market, or people can knit their own. All are made from soft materials, as premature babies have very sensitive skin. Some neonatal warming blankets come with extra features, such as a combination humidifier-blanket.

A heated mattress pad can offer more than just snuggly comfort on a cold day. According to the Electric Blanket Institute, approximately 25 percent of people who have bought an electric blanket or heated mattress pad have done so for health reasons. Research has shown that using a heated mattress pad provides health benefits for some specific conditions, such as arthritis, fibromyalgia or muscle stiffness and soreness.

The Heated mattress Pad has the following health benefits for its users:

1.	Determining whether a heated mattress pad will help a patient involves researching what role the long-term application of heat plays in combating a particular condition. Health information web sites such as revolutionhealth.com or webmd.com can be useful. Asking a doctor, nurse or physical therapist also can help avoid any confusion.

2.	Heated mattress pad can reduce the pain, stiffness and soreness that results from arthritis. The Arthritis Foundation’s Pain Center recommends using heated pad to fight pain. Patients with arthritis have reported that using a heated mattress pad first thing in the morning significantly reduces stiffness and increases flexibility.

3.	Researchers have also found that heating pads, such as heated mattress pad, can help treat the pain of fibromyalgia as well help patients with sore or stiff muscles. Although doctors are not sure how the heated pad helps fibromyalgia sufferers, evidence shows that it works. For patients with stiffness, the heat helps relax tense muscles.

4.	Although one of the many approaches to low back pain suggests that alternating heat and cold can help reduce pain, researchers at the National Institutes of Health advise against the use of a heated mattress pad for low back pain because it provides long-term exposure to heat. The NIH instead recommends short-term hot compresses alternated with cold ones for low back pain, suggesting that not all conditions that are treatable with heat are treatable with a heated mattress pad.

5.	Heated mattress pad offer patients with specific problems some comfort, but patients should use them with caution, especially when setting the temperature. Exposing the skin to very high levels of heat for long periods of time could cause inflammation or burning.

With the cost of heating homes on the rise, it will be more and more difficult to find ways to keep warm without breaking the bank. It’s forecast that the average household will spend as much as 30% more on heating fuel in 2008 than in 2007, depending on the type used. More than ever, families will be looking for ways to keep cozy while cutting costs. The answer may be in electric throw for those chilly days and nights. Plush, quilted, and micro-plush fabrics are soft and snuggly in colors and prints to compliment almost any room in your home. New fibers are more durable and soft than in years past and hold their shape and size with many cleanings. Most fabrics are machine washable

Electric throw are cost-effective options for staying warm. Electric throw come in various configurations and sizes, but the basic feature of an electric throw is that you can set a desired temperature setting, usually for use at night. Electric throw are made of a polyester/cotton blend and are flame retardant. The heating element is at the foot of the blanket, where the electrical cord is located. The wires are embedded in the blanket. High-end electric throw have thinner, more expansive wires that are not as noticeable. Depending on the size, electric throw can have 1 or 2 controls (wired from the heating element or wireless). Some controls are designed to provide regions for warmth, especially for larger mattresses such as king-size bedding.

Electric throw make your bed warm and cozy before you ever slip between the sheets, and using them during the night can dramatically cut your heating costs during the winter months. In fact, if you lower the thermostat at night for the eight hours that you are asleep, some experts predict that you can cut your energy bill by almost a third. However, you need to select the right kind of electric throw or pad to make sure that this savings measure does not end up costing you comfortable slumber.

Heating blankets were first used in the early 1900s to warm patients with tuberculosis whose treatment required them to sleep outdoors. The blankets soon became available to the general public, and have evolved in design and sophistication throughout the years. To save on costs, many people opt to use an heating blanket while they sleep rather than relying on central heat

Heating blankets are fabric panels with coated and insulated warming coils embedded in them, typically fusing two pieces of fabric that sandwich the heating elements. The wires snake up and down the length and width of the blanket and are connected to a thermostat that measures the temperature of the blanket and keeps it in check with the temperature you have dialed into the thermostatic controller. One end of the thermostat connects to the warming element and the other to an electrical outlet.

Factors to consider while buying:

Quality heating blankets have easy-to-use controls that can be seen in the dark if they need to be adjusted, can be safely laundered and are made of durable materials. Dual controls are also a helpful option on larger blankets, usually king and queen sizes, so that each side of the bed will be uniquely comfortable to the sleeper.

Precautions to be taken:

Make sure you know whether or not the blanket you are buying is meant to be used as a bed warmer (turned on to warm the bed before you get in and then turned off) versus an Heating Blanket meant to be kept on throughout sleep. If you have an older Heating Blanket, inspect it very carefully for any tears or nicks. If you have any doubt about its condition, have it tested by an electrician or purchase a new one. Heating Blanket accidents are not common but do occur, so be careful.

The heated blanket was introduced a few decades ago. With a large selection of them available on the market at very attractive prices, it’s hard to avoid the possibility of refusing to buy, especially when you think of a cold night.

The following discussion emerges some pros and cons of using heated blankets, and can help you determine if’s right for you up to take one. Let’s now look at the benefits and features.

Firstly, it’s very obvious that this will keep the heat at night. Not only that, you heat, though, but it helps you save money on heating bills. Many owners of heated blanket simply turn the heat at night, when they are actually in use.

There’s also another benefit that comes with dual control heated blanket. These coatings are two sets of heat controllers, which allow couples who share their bed, set half a blanket, to their own temperature. If you share a bed with someone who you are quarreling with more than room temperature, it is adequately addressing the problem.

Many people also enjoy a timer, which now come with the heated blanket. Too many people forget to turn off their blankets as they leave for the day, with the built in timer available, it is very easy to solve the problem now.

Let’s look at the negatives now. Firstly, the heated blanket seems to be a failure over time. They’ll suddenly stopped heating its feet effectively, and this could leave you need more soon.

Another issue is the security concerns that still exist with electrically heated. You’ll want nothing to with you to bed to sleep with them, because there’s remote, but real risk of fire if something pressed against and cover too long.

As you can see, there are advantages and disadvantages for the use of Heating Blankets. At the end of the day, they have a real purpose, which makes many users happy

Sunbeam Heating Blankets have an extremely special feature; they are equipped with special sensors that will detect cold parts of your body and will instruct the blanket to heat them immediately!

Sunbeam Heating Blankets heat up very fast. Most of the times it will only take a few minutes for you to start feeling warmer than little birds inside their nest! Honestly, Sunbeam Heating Blankets will warm up a lot faster than you might have been used to with other Heating Blankets.

The blanket has a soft, extremely friendly, 100% acrylic fabric surface. One important advantage of this blanket is that you will not feel any wires/elements inside it. Sunbeam Heating Blankets feels almost exactly like a normal, everyday blanket does. This is achieved through what the manufacturer has named ThermoFine Warming technology.

The Sunbeam Heating Blankets come with a 5 year guarantee and they have passed all the safety checks of course. For a large blanket, you will pay something close to 80 bucks; you can always get smaller sizes for less money. If you want to clean your blanket, theres nothing special you need to do; just clean it like you would clean any other blanket.

Sunbeam heating blankets are smart; they know exactly how you feel; your blanket automatically senses and adjusts to the room temperature, and the temperature under the blanket, for personalized warmth and ultimate comfort.

Uniform and consistent heating

Silent solid state control is easy to operate

10 temperature settings

Selectable auto-off

Pre-heat

Dual controls for individual warmth selections

Machine wash & tumble dry

For more than 50 years, Sunbeam has been the leading manufacturer of automatic bedding. All bedding components are constructed under the strict supervision and control of Sunbeam’s highly trained engineers and technicians. Sunbeam’s wiring will not overheat from bunching, folding, or use of another blanket on top, and each blanket meets or exceeds all UL standards for safety
